‘Composting Made Easy’
by Kathy Seabrook, member, Conservation Committee, GCM
Greetings, Fellow Gardeners,

Here are some tips on home composting made easy from my short video and some additional resources from the Rutgers Agricultural Experment Station and Morris Township website.
  • Composting | Morris Township, NJ - Official Website
  • FS811: Home Composting (Rutgers NJAES)

Do you know…
  • Composting can save you money on waste removal and purchasing fertilizer for your home
  • Reduces fertilizer and water use
  • Reduces the need for soil and plant amendments, while benefiting your soil and plants by improving soil structure and texture
  • Increases aeration and water holding and promotes soil fertility
  • Stimulates healthy root development
  • Aids in erosion control
  • Reduces chemical inputs
  • Composting is easy
  • Saves time with no need for bagging grass and leaves

Things to Compost:
  • Vegetable food scraps
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Flowers
  • Weeds
  • Sawdust and wood ash
  • Chopped twigs and branches
  • Coffee grounds w/filters

Not Compostable:
  • Meat scraps
  • Diseased or insect infested plants
  • Weeds with seeds
  • Dog and cat feces
  • Food with grease or soap residues
